A colon cleanse can often be done through a fast. In a fast, one doesn’t eat any food for a while. However, they can take water or natural juices to ensure that they are well hydrated. Though the duration of such a fast is up to the individual, it has been known that some people can fast for up to thirty days. The function of a fast is simple. When you fast, you don’t give the colon any work to do. This leaves it free to do other work such as removal of substances which are impacted on its wall. Apart from that, a fast leaves the colon free to repair its cells. This means that at the end of a fast, you are likely to have a rejuvenated colon able to do its work even more efficiently than before.
Types of fasts
There are many types of fasts that one can do. This usually is dependent on the individual. For instance, you can do a partial fast, where you have a small meal or snack each day to ensure that you have energy for the day. You could also have a liquid only fast, in which you don’t eat anything apart from some liquids. Normally, it’s advised that one not take any artificial fluids, since it means that the body will have more work absorbing contents from these. The aim of the fast, on the other hand, is to give the body enough time to work on repairing itself.
The Master Cleanse
One type of fast that permits no food intake is the master cleanse. In this fast, one only takes juice and fluids, and no food. The regimen is usually simple one. Basically, one takes some water with salt in it or laxative tea. During the day, the only liquid they take is lemonade. This has to be made from fresh lemons and pure water. One can also add some maple syrup or cayenne to flavor it. At the end of the day, they also take some more laxative tea. This process is done for a minimum of ten days.
The purpose of this type of fast is to enable to the body to rid itself of any toxins. When the body doesn’t have any work to do in terms of processing food, it can dedicate more time and energy to removing all the bad things from the body. By depriving the body of food, it also forces the body to look for other sources of energy. The main one is fat. This means that when you do such a fast, you also end up getting rid of fat from the body.
This type of fast isn’t recommended in some instances. One is diabetes. During the fast, the levels of glucose usually fluctuate rapidly, which may not be good for diabetics. Apart from that, pregnant people should also not do this fast as they require as much energy as they can get to sustain the pregnancy.
